Grants,
New Mexico The new City Animal Shelter in Grants, NM contains kennels for 32 dogs, cat condos, outdoor runs, animal intake and isolation spaces, treatments rooms, and support spaces. Mullen Heller worked with the staff to design specialty spaces in the building to increase staff efficiency and adoptions, such as a puppy room near the reception area which allows visitors easy access to view animals, and treatment spaces for future veterinary consultations. The appearance of the building reflects the physical settings of Grants, the concrete block of the kennel areas mirrors the lava fields where the clinic is located, and the sloping façade pays homage to a Grants landmark, the 11,305-foot tall Mount.
