Route 66 Visitor Center
Route 66 Visitor Center
Albuquerque, NM
The Route 66 Visitor Center is strategically located on top of 9 mile hill on the far west side of the Albuquerque, where Interstate 40 meets old Route 66. It purposefully punctuates the spot where people have forever gathered to marvel at the sunset reflected off the Sandia Mountains to the east and at nightfall to watch the twinkling City lights sparkle in the valley below.
The two story 22,000 sf Visitor Center was designed to meet the needs of the local community, host regional events and attract travelers intrigued by the history of Route 66. The second floor houses the banquet hall with balcony facing the new amphitheater and the Sandia Mountains beyond. The museum on the first floor below the banquet hall will sport vintage cars and Route 66 memorabilia. A tap room with patio near the entrance will energize the first floor. The Visitor Center and welcoming plaza are perched above the terraced parking area to provide viewing for outdoor events such as concerts, car shows, festivals and markets.
