Smiles for Kids II
Smiles for Kids Orthodontics
Albuquerque, NM
After completing its pediatric dentistry flagship office, Smiles for Kids was poised to move forward with a sister building specializing in orthodontics and oral surgery adjacent to the existing facility.
The 20,000sf building houses an underground parking structure, an orthodontic and oral surgery clinic on the first floor and the company’s corporate offices on the second. The goal was to create a modern yet comfortable interior space with exterior massing and details similar to the adjacent first building.
Designed to accommodate more patients than the typical dental clinic, patient flow was critical to avoid backups at check-in and check-out. The internal circulation separated these functions to create an efficient patient flow for the two distinct services. All of the patient areas – including the open orthodontic bays and private surgery rooms – are located along the building’s curved façade to take advantage of the spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains. Patients enjoy the light and view of nature, which eases the anxiety that children sometimes feel when visiting the dentist.
